NOTE: As you use your knife day in and day out you will notice wear in the finish. Both on the blade and the handles (scales). This is normal for metal parts that have a coating on the metal. Over time the coating will wear in places (usually edges) down to the bare metal. This process of “wearing” has been described as a patina finish. With aluminum products, there is no need to be concerned about rust forming on the wear spots. In conclusion, many of you will remove your knife from your pocket several times a day… Your knife handles (scales) will show signs of wear as a result.

For the coating, we chose Cerakote because it afforded the customer an ultra-durable coating while allowing for various color options. CERAKOTE will build up in holes more than on flat surfaces. As a result, the Pivot and Backspacers will be “snug” when assembling the knife.

Installation

For those new to the knife world, "scales" are the handle portion of the knife. This listing is for scales only, no knife is included. You can purchase a Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight at your local retailer or click HERE. We strongly suggest you purchase your Spyderco from an authorized retailer. An increasing number of clones (imitation knives) are being sold, so do your homework to confirm you aren't unknowingly buying a counterfeit knife.

Get Rid of the Liner

The stock Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight comes with a liner. Our scales do NOT use the liner and, instead, utilize a second Phosphorus Bronze washer (included). This improves the knife's action and removes an unnecessary component, assisting with blade centering and streamlining the scale installation process. Through aggressive pocketing and deleting the liner, we made Aimfront scales only .20 oz heavier than stock scales.

Looks great

The orange scales look amazing. They install very easily and fit well together. The action is not as smooth as it was with the FRN scales, when the blade is open there seems to be an excessive amount of blade play both side to side and front to back. I have made minor adjustments tightening and loosening the screws on either side of the scales. If I tighten them enough to remove the blade play the action is very stiff to the point it cannot be flicked open.
