Wear and Tear

NOTE: As you use your knife day in and day out you will notice wear in the finish. Both on the blade and the handles (scales). This is normal for metal parts that have a coating on the metal. Over time the coating will wear in places (usually edges) down to the bare metal. This process of "wearing" has been described as a patina finish. With aluminum products, there is no need to be concerned about rust forming on the wear spots. In conclusion, many of you will remove your knife from your pocket several times a day… Your knife handles (scales) will show signs of wear as a result.

*TYPE III Hardcoat Anodizing color will vary 'slightly' from batch to batch, and there will be mottling present on some scales. We will do our best to ensure these variations are minimal.*

A cool neutral gray. Pulls slightly lighter than gunmetal, reads modern without being aggressive. Plays well with steel and titanium hardware.

Spyderco built the Para 3 LW with injection-molded FRN scales over a thin internal liner — light, but flexible under hand pressure. Aimfront's aluminum scales replace the FRN and delete the liner entirely, replacing it with a second phosphor bronze washer that cleans up the action and helps with blade centering. Through aggressive pocketing and the linerless design, our scales add only 0.20 oz over stock — you get the rigidity of aluminum without a weight penalty.

Installation

For those new to the knife world, "scales" are the handle portion of the knife. This listing is for scales only, no knife is included. Purchase your Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight from an authorized retailer. An increasing number of clones (imitation knives) are being sold, so do your homework to confirm you aren't unknowingly buying a counterfeit knife. To disassemble you'll need T-6, T-8, and T-10 Torx drivers.

Get Rid of the Liner

The stock Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight comes with a liner. Our scales do NOT use the liner and, instead, utilize a second phosphor bronze washer (included). This improves the knife's action and removes an unnecessary component, assisting with blade centering and streamlining the scale installation process. Through aggressive pocketing and deleting the liner, we made Aimfront scales only .20 oz heavier than stock scales.
